Many unique Bird Species can be seen in the area. This includes a number of raptors such as the Cape Vulture (Gyps Coprotheres) Gyps eresand the Bearded Vulture.
The Vulture Colony which consists of approximately 140 birds. Although the vultures often hunt more than 100km away and might sleep over, they always return to the nest. The Vultures can be seen at any time of the day but greater numbers can be seen from about 15:30 when they start returning to the nest.
A number of Bald Ibis also moved into the area after disappearing from the Eastern Cape about a century ago.
Crowned Cranes can be seen throughout the area during the summer in large flocks on the many scenic roads throughout the area.
